Examining the Relationship of Green Intellectual Capital and Environmental Innovation with Sustainable Financial Performance

Abstract

In today’s world, growing concerns about environmental issues and climate change have made sustainable development one of the most important priorities of human societies. Organizations and companies are no exception and seek to adopt innovative and sustainable approaches that both protect the environment and improve their financial performance. In this context, green intellectual capital and environmental innovation have emerged as two key factors that may play an important role in achieving sustainable financial performance. Accordingly, the present study aimed to examine the relationship of green intellectual capital and environmental innovation with sustainable financial performance. In terms of data-collection method, this study employed a descriptive-survey and correlational design, and in terms of purpose, it was applied research. The statistical population consisted of all employees working in the financial departments of paper and paperboard manufacturing companies. Based on the Krejcie and Morgan sample-size table, a sample of 384 participants was selected through nonprobability convenience sampling. Questionnaires were used to measure the study variables. The questionnaire data were extracted, classified, and analyzed using SmartPLS software. The results of the data analysis indicated that green intellectual capital had a significant effect on environmental innovation and sustainable financial performance. Environmental innovation also had a significant effect on sustainable financial performance. Finally, environmental innovation moderated the relationship between green intellectual capital and sustainable financial performance.
